Upon completing the 80-hour program and passing the certification exam, Coding Clarified will help secure a six-month internship for each student, providing valuable hands-on experience in a real-world medical setting.

By the end of the program, students will effectively have two years of experience to add to their resume, making them highly competitive candidates for medical coding positions in New Mexico. With our expert instructors and interactive learning materials, you’ll gain the confidence and expertise to succeed in this rewarding field. What is Medical Coding?

These codes are used to communicate with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and other healthcare entities. Coders analyze patient medical records to assign codes based on standardized coding systems accurately. It requires a strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy.

While medical coding focuses on translating medical information into codes, medical billing is the process of submitting and following up on claims for reimbursement of medical services. Billers use the coded information provided by coders to create and submit claims to insurance companies. Please note: Coding Clarified does not offer medical billing training, only coding.

Step by Step Instructions for New Mexico Candidates

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) provides grant funding that may cover the full cost of your medical coding training. Follow the steps below in order. Read each step carefully before moving to the next.

Part 1: Apply for WIOA Grant Funding

  1. Find your closest workforce location: NM Workforce Solutions Office Locations
  2. Locations are listed alphabetically by city. Select the office closest to your residence.
  3. Contact your closest workforce office and request an eligibility screening for a WIOA Training Grant.
    IMPORTANT: Write down your assigned caseworker's full name and email address. You will need this information for the next step. If you do not have a caseworker yet, that is okay. Complete the form without the caseworker information and we will update it at a later date by sending you a Proposal Update form.
  4. Complete the Proposal & Acceptance form in its entirety at the link below. This form generates the Proposal & Acceptance Letter that must be submitted to your caseworker:

    NOTE: Your program start date must be at least two weeks from today's date. Do not submit the form with missing information. Incomplete forms prolong the process and require you to resubmit a new completed form.
  5. Provide your caseworker with CIP Code 51.0713 upon request.

Part 2: Locate Coding Clarified

Use these steps to verify that Coding Clarified is an approved training provider for your state. Your caseworker may also use these steps.

  1. Go to the New Mexico Workforce Connection: https://www.jobs.dws.nm.gov
  2. Scroll down the page to View Eligible Training Provider List and click it.
  3. Click Filter Criteria.
  4. In the Provider name field, type Coding Clarified, then press Enter on your keyboard.
  5. The list will display all of Coding Clarified's ETPL approved programs. Click any program name to view full program information and eligibility details.
