Who We Are
Coding Clarified is an AAPC-approved medical coding school and a U.S. Department of Labor registered apprenticeship sponsor. Since 2015, more than 1,000 students have trained here, earned their CPC certification, and launched careers — many starting as young parents, career changers, and first-generation college students, just like our founder.

- Medical Coding Training — AAPC-approved CPC preparation, Practicode, and a guaranteed internship. Finish our program and you graduate with the equivalent of two years of coding experience on your resume.

What Is Medical Coding?
Medical coding is the language of healthcare finances and data. Every diagnosis, procedure, treatment, and piece of equipment is translated into a standardized code that everyone in healthcare understands. When you visit a doctor, ride in an ambulance, or get lab work done, a trained specialist reviews the records and assigns those codes.
Those codes are what get providers paid accurately, keep insurance billing honest, and keep patient records complete. It’s the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the entire healthcare system running — and it’s a skilled, in-demand, work-from-home-friendly career you can train for in months, not years.
Meet Our Founder
Janine Mothershed, CPC, CPC-I, CAC, CADS — Founder & Lead Instructor
Janine founded Coding Clarified in 2015 after building her career the hard way: a young mom, the first in her family to attend college, choosing medical coding so she could support her children and be home to raise them. Her first certified job paid $18 an hour. She turned it into contract work with The Coding Network, then a CMS auditing role with Optum — and went from paycheck to paycheck to a career that changed her family’s future.

I earned every inch of this career, and no one handed me any of it. So I won’t tell you it’s easy, because it isn’t. I’ll tell you the truth: hard things come to the people who work for them. With over 20 years of professional coding experience and 20 years in EMS — holding the CAC (Certified Ambulance Coder) and CADS (Certified Ambulance Documentation Specialist) credentials from NAAC — Janine teaches coding and ambulance documentation from real field experience, not just a textbook. She’s a proud mom of five (four girls and one boy) and recently welcomed two grandchildren.
